If you’re like most people, you will be visiting Walt Disney World when its hot. Even as I write this post in January, the high today is 85. Which isn’t terrible, but factor in humidity and who knows how hot it will feel. Fast forward to the spring and especially summer and you’re looking at sweltering heat. I always wondered if the Imagineers could make a temperature controlled dome for Walt Disney World like they have in The Truman Show. That would be truly marvelous…..But for now, that is not an option and if you’re visiting WDW, then you just have to deal with the heat. Its a package deal. So, if you’re looking for a cold, sippable treat to help keep you cool, here are some of our favorites! This is our kid-friendly version, so these are all good choices if you have little ones too!
1. The American Dream
Found in Epcot, in you guessed it, America, at Fife and Drum to be exact, I stumbled upon this delicious concoction a few years ago when Rochelle and G were in search of root beer floats(also at Fife and Drum). I’m not much of a soda person, so I decided to give this a try instead. Blue Raspberry and Cherry Icee swirled with vanilla soft serve may not be completely unique to WDW, it is unique in that where else can you stroll around the World Showcase with one in hand? Definitely one of my favorite treats in all of WDW.
2.Frozen Hot Cocoa
Found at Lottawatta Lodge in Blizzard Beach, this pairs great with a side of mini donuts, which can be found right across from the Lodge and tastes exactly what it sounds like. Perfect with the theming of the Blizzard Beach, this was definitely a treat in the hot Florida sun.
Found at Gelati, by the entrance of the Italian Pavilion in Epcot, this blend of strawberry, banana and peach is light and delicious, perfect for cooling off. Be sure to grab some gelato while here if you’re looking for a snack as the line if often pretty long and you won’t want to have to wait again.
4. Frozen Chai
Animal Kingdom usually gets lost in the jumble of “best” lists, but Frozen Chai? Yumm. This one can be found right across from Kali River Rapids at Royal Anandapur Tea Company. I can’t say its the most amazing Chai I’ve ever had, but it defintiely deserves a mention and is a great drink to help you cool off.
Probably one of our top favorites on the list, this treat can be found at Harambe Market in Animal Kingdom. Frozen Strawberry and Passionfruit make this delicious and refreshing without being too sweet. For an added touch, get it in the Ocarina souvenir cup, complete with music sheets. So fun!
6. Frozen Jungle Juice
Whether you call this Jungle Juice or POG, if you’ve never tried it, it needs to go on your WDW food bucketlist. Like right now. A mix of Passionfruit, Orange and Guava, the juice itself can be found at O’hana, which is where we originally tried it and at Kona Cafe, both at the Polynesian Village Resort. Now available in a frozen version at Mahindi(formerly known as Harambe Popcorn) in Africa, this ingenuis concoction is sure to be a hit. Sadly we were not able to try it when we were there because the machine was broken. So sad. But its on the list for next time!
Scattered throughout WDW, this can be found in both the regular variety as well as Raspberry flavor. I prefer the Strawberry, found at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, but with Original and Raspberry flavors also available, this is probably one of the most popular drinks I see people carrying around when its hot.
8. Goofy’s Glaciers
Found at Big Top Treats in Fantasyland, while this appears to be a pretty standard slushy, its actually a little less frozen than we are used to and I think that’s a good thing! The best part is that you can ask for mixed flavors and customize the Glacier to your preference.
9.Dole Whip Float
Seriously how can you talk about WDW without mentioning a dole whip? By far one of my favorite treats in all of WDW, the dole whip float takes it up a notch by adding pineapple juice. The best part? This is one of the lower calorie options on the list so you can enjoy (mostly) guilt free.
10. LeFou’s Brew
I’m going to be honest here- I don’t LOVE this drink, but I have to give it an honorable mention because I know a lot of people who do. Found at Gaston’s Tavern in Fantaslyland, this is a frozen Appley-Marshmallowy drink with a Passionfruit froth on top to give it that “brew” look. Personally I found this a little too sweet, but I know a lot of people have to have it when they’re at WDW, so I felt the need to mention it in case you’ve never tried one.
11. Bottomless Milkshakes
Found at Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, these Bottomless Milkshakes will run you $8.50, but are All-You-Care-To-Enjoy. They are served in a mason jar and are delicious. Available in Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla or Caramel, these are great to share.
12. Padawan Limeade
With Star Wars taking over much of Hollywood Studios, Backlot Express followed the trend and many of their menu items became Star Wars themed. The Padawan Limeade is a Pomegranate Limeade found here, is not too sweet and very refreshing.
Keep in mind, these are meant to be treats…..not your hydration for the day. Adding the heat and humidity of Orlando with loads of sugar can be bad business, so as fun as these are, we recommend enjoying in moderation:) We recommend LOTS of water as a general rule.
I personally recommend filling a water bottle full with ice cubes before you leave for the day so as it melts, you will have ice cold water until you need a refill.
Many of these are available with snack credits on the Disney Dining Plan, just look for the DDP notation next to it on the menu. That being said, however, if you choose the souvenir mug that some are offered with, that is not included with your snack credit.
With the introduction of Starbucks into the Parks a few years ago, all of the typical Starbucks drinks are available in every Park. These can all be used as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. I have not included these drinks on this list since they are not exclusive to WDW, but if you’re new to visiting the World, its good to know that you have these options as well.
What drinks have I missed? What are your favorite cold drinks to enjoy while at Walt Disney World?
