I love coffee. I take that back. I really love coffee. More like espresso. And lattes. Yummmm. I admit I have a problem….but its ok. I promise. So when it came time to drive the California coast, I was determined to try as many coffee shops as I could find and pick my favorites. Enjoy!
1. Water + Leaves
This cute little coffee shop, located at Fisherman’s wharf in Monterey, not only makes a great latte, but they also have a nice little spot to get away from the chaos of the wharf. Whether you choose to sit inside and admire the simple but beautiful décor or outside where you can view the harbor or the beach, we thought this place was pretty lovely.
2. Big Sur Bakery
Despite the reviews I had read about this place being super crowded, we were the only people in line when we visited. The service was fast, the mocha was delicious and I’m not sure if there’s anywhere else in Big Sur to grab a latte on the go.
3. Lily’s coffeehouse
Not your standard “must-visit” location on the PCH, this Cambria coffee shop stole our hearts. The owners went over and above to make sure everything was perfect, the patio had a wonderful ambience and they also serve some simple but tasty sandwiches if you’re in need of a bite to eat and hot cocoa for the kids. This place is super pet friendly as well, which is always a plus if you’re travelling with your fur baby in tow.
4. Scout Coffee
Probably my favorite coffee shop we had visited on our trip, located in downtown San Luis Obispo, Scout was pretty fabulous. With a laid back vibe, delicious hand crafted lattes and milkshakes for the kiddos, I probably could’ve stayed here all day.
5. French Press
With its hipster vibe, this coffee shop is the perfect place in Santa Barbara to grab a coffee and get some work done in a beautiful setting. Which is basically all I need.
6. Café Vahik
I completely stumbled upon this place by accident; Café Vahik in La Jolla is small but don’t let that fool you. This place not only serves great food, but they make a killer Mayan mocha. While they have both indoor and outdoor seating, I prefer to grab it to go and watch the sunrise, as Windandsea Beach is only a 3 minute walk down the road. Perfection.
